Nixon’s Science Class COUGARS |
|
|
Dear Parents, Welcome to 8th grade science! This year we will study life, earth and physical science. Your child will do most of his or her work in this class, so there will be no homework unless he/she has been absent. We will have tests about every 2 weeks, worth 100 points. Your student should be bringing home a study guide for the test. If they filled it all out and know the answers, they’ll do fine. You can help by asking them questions from their notes a few nights a week. There will also be a section quiz at least once a week. They should study their notes for this quiz. They also have daily objectives (in their agenda) and a science notebook they need to keep up with. Ask to see these anytime for information on tests and class work. They are required to keep all papers I return, and a notebook log listing returned papers and points. I will give about 60 points worth of quizzes on the objectives and their notebook per quarter, so they need to be organized, and bring objectives, pencil and science notebook to class everyday. If your child is absent, he/she can also get homework and objectives from a homework folder in the classroom. If they will be out a few days, you can call in for their make-up work, too. My planning period is 1st hour, from 8:45 to 9:44am on the regular schedule. You also can use my website to check grades. The codes and passwords were sent out with the last report card, and the office has them. I have a group e-mail I use to send parents quiz updates and articles of interest. To sign up, please e-mail me at school. I am very excited about teaching your children this year! They are a great group to work with. If you have any comments or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Janice Nixon |
