Class Procedures, general rules for how class is conducted, FYI…. Mr. G Class Rules, 9th Science, Mr.Granderson,
06-07 1) Always respect fellow classmates and your teacher. Degrading talk will not be tolerated from or to anyone! I will give to you, and expect from you, equal fairness and decency. You are not permitted to put down my students…this includes yourself (since you are one of my students). Humor is appreciated, but there is no such thing as degrading humor… 2) Be in your seats and ready to work with materials when the bell rings, or you will be counted tardy. Tardies: Students tardy to class will receive detention assignments from the assistant principals before being admitted to class. First two are noted but without detention, I believe…see Mr. Griep about further consequences. A “U” in conduct will be given for 5 or more tardies in a 9 weeks. Be on time! Be here! We do a large number of labs and activities, which are fun but tough to make up effectively, and not very fair to your lab partners. 3) It is recommended all science work be kept in a notebook for reference and help with not misplacing your papers. Periodically I will do class grade checks, and every Monday grades will be updated for your review online with Gradebook Parent viewer (http://grades.sdale.org) See the office for login info if you don’t have yours, its very handy. Your objectives and upcoming events will be posted on the bulletin board beside the door for your perusal as you enter. Please check it, and you will always be unflustered and current in class events. 4) If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain the classwork missed. All makeup work has to be turned in by the 3rd day of the student’s return to class (see me about extended absence time). Objectives are available at the bulletin board and any worksheets or explanations for makeup should be obtained from Mr. G during “individual” time (ie., not while I’m in the middle of explaining or demonstrating something for everyone else’s edification). 5) Late work (not makeup for excused absence) may be made up in the next available ZAP for up to 70% credit. Otherwise it is a zero. It should be noted that ZAP is strictly voluntary for students and an act of grace on Mr. G’s part, and therefore should not be considered an occasion for complaints or attempts at bargaining/negotiation. 6) Any form of cheating (doing it or allowing others to cheat off you with your knowledge) will result in a zero for all parties involved and a call/note home to parents. 7) Don’t talk unnecessarily while I’m explaining things to a group (use your hand signals). Do talk doing group discussions (there are many) and contribute to the thinking going on…participate! 8) Persons unable to conduct themselves properly will receive appropriate reinforcement (detention, calls home, etc.) so that they can learn to behave socially, and others can continue to learn. (Behave, or face consequences). This means you must participate in class and not rob yourself, as my student, of opportunities (Doing nothing has consequences, too). 9) Check with me before getting animals out or picking up things set out in the room. It’s great to have your interest, but you may need to follow directions to avoid damage, injury, etc. 10) Lab safety is important. You will be given a lab safety test, and lab safety/directions are paramount in class. You will likely be immediately removed from a lab for serious safety violations, for your safety and the safety of others, and may face restrictions on future activities…follow directions and take activities seriously, your safety is important to me. 11) Please feel free to bring your neat
science stuff from home up to school (let me know, first, if there’s any
question of OK). 12) Grades: updated at Gradebook Parent Viewer each Monday afternoon or so, and periodically in class. http://grades.sdale.org Any students who need extra help, please
feel free to ask! If even more time is
needed, I am generally available before/after school and have 5th
period plan. Wednesday I have
morning/afternoon hall duty near the counselor’s office and can be asked for
there. I want you to do well and be
interested in class and not get confused or behind. Please use your teacher resource! I’m happy to have you in my class, and I
look forward to a good year of varied, interesting science explorations with
you all!! Email: jgranderson@sdale.org |
