Civics

We will be covering the following:

  • Immigration and Naturalization
  • The Foundation of Government
  • The Constitution
  • The Amendments
  • The 3 Branches of Government
  • Political Parties and Elections
  • Black History Month:  We incorporate Black History awareness and standards throughout Civics, all year.
  • Current Events:  Newspapers, computer lab, Channel One.  Talk to your kids about current events.  We use them on a daily basis.
  • Juvenile, Civil and Criminal Law
  • Economic Systems

This course is required for graduation.  Students must have a passing grade (one full credit) in Civics to graduate.  Both high schools offer one semester of Civics in case a student needs a half credit.  However, if a student needs both half credits – the student will need to take the semester at HBHS/SHS and then go to night school to earn the other half.

Each student will be given a textbook and are responsible in bringing it to class on a daily basis.

Assignments

All assignments are posted daily in classroom.   It is the student’s responsibility to get make-up work.  Three days are given to turn any work in due to an excused absence.

Full-credit is NOT allowed for any unexcused late work.  Students may receive up to 70 percent credit for unexcused late work as long as it is turned in within three days of the due date (weekends included).

Agenda

Students are expected to write down their objectives on a daily basis.  Using an agenda is okay but not necessary.  Students may just use a notebook they bring to class to store their objectives

Tests

All test days are posted well in advance.

Historical Fiction Project

This assignment was given as a rubric to students in December 2008.  The project is due March 13, 2009.  No late work accepted
